Lagos Police Recover 25 Stolen Vehicles, Nab 21 Suspects

The police command in Lagos State has recovered 25 stolen vehicles and apprehended 21 suspects in major security operations across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed this on Monday while addressing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

Mr Jimoh said the recoveries and arrests were part of proactive efforts to prevent crime and ensure public safety.

“In this new year, our initiatives in crime prevention and intelligence gathering have yielded positive results.

“The command remains committed to safeguarding lives, property and the rule of law,” he said.

The commissioner urged citizens who had lost their vehicles to come forward with proof of ownership to claim them.

Mr Jimoh disclosed that recent operations led to the arrest of 21 suspects involved in various criminal activities, including armed robbery and kidnapping.

He also noted that the command had monitored individuals posing as fortune-tellers or spiritual advisers, who often deceive people using fake currency, documents or false promises of wealth.

He highlighted the success of the command’s “One Chance” initiative, which was aimed at preventing and detecting criminal activities, particularly robbery, fraud and vehicle theft.

The police boss advised the public to remain vigilant, especially around suspicious vehicles that may have multiple occupants ready to commit crimes.

“These vehicles are fitted with distinct colours and markings. The public should report any unusual activity immediately.

“The command will continue to ensure the safety and protection of all residents. Our defensive and intelligence-led efforts are designed to deter crime and apprehend criminals before they can harm the public,” he said.

Addressing security in schools, Mr Jimoh said the command had established a comprehensive school support system covering Lagos West, Lagos East and Lagos Central.

“This initiative includes increased patrols and coordination with school management to guarantee safe learning environments, allowing students to carry out academic activities without fear,” he said.

He noted that a recent security threat involving a single individual targeting schools had been contained, adding that investigations indicated the person acted alone.

“All schools in Lagos State are safe. We urge school owners, proprietors and managers to maintain vigilance while cooperating with police efforts,” he said.

The CP further emphasised enhanced policing measures, including the deployment of additional personnel and operational devices to monitor public areas, schools, hospitals and transit points, especially at night.

He revealed that the command had established specialised patrol units and technical monitoring systems to prevent threats and ensure that educational activities proceed without disruption.

Mr Jimoh said the command had also deployed acoustic and technical units across the state to strengthen monitoring, in addition to setting up camera surveillance systems in key areas.

The commissioner called on citizens to cooperate with the police by providing credible information that could aid investigations and strengthen community security.

Mr Jimoh reaffirmed the commitment of the command commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and ensuring Lagos remains safe and secure for all residents and visitors.
