A herder, Jimoh Abubakar, 42, on Wednesday appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Too State, over alleged theft of 50 cows valued at N45 million put in his care.

The defendant of Kila Village near Omi -Adio, Ido LGA, Ibadan, is facing two counts of conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Foluke Adedosu, told the court that the defendant allegedly conspired with others now at large to commit the offences.

Adedosu alleged that the defendants stole 50 cows valued N45 million put in his care and subsequently informed the owner, one Yusuf Adewoye of Orita Challenge in Ibadan, that all the animals had died.

The offences, the prosecutor said, were committed in October, 2024, at Kila Village , near Omi – Adio, Ibadan.

She said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 516, 383 and punishable under Section 390 (3) (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State 2000.

Defence Counsel, A. A. Afolayan, asked for the defendant’s bail in most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, A. T. Oyediji, admitted the defendant to N1 million bail and with two sureties in like sum.

Oyediji, thereafter, adjourned the matter until March 3, for hearing.
