The Transmission Company of Nigeria, Enugu region, says it has inaugurated a new 75 megavolt-ampere, 132/33 kilovolt power transformer at its Mile 50, Abakaliki Transmission Substation in Ebonyi.
TCN spokeswoman Ndidi Mbah announced this in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday.
Ms Mbah said that the transformer project was part of the ongoing TCN-World Bank power projects aimed at further enhancing power supply in Nigeria.
According to her, the inauguration had boosted the substation’s capacity to 135MVA, enhancing its wheeling capacity and enabling more bulk power supply from Enugu Electricity Distribution Company to Ebonyi and parts of Cross River.
TCN’s general manager of the Enugu region, Thomas Inugonum, said the company had approved the procurement of a new 60MVA power transformer to replace a decommissioned, leaking unit.
He said this would add 48 megawatts to the substation’s capacity upon completion.
