Senator Eteng Jonah Williams of Cross River Central Senatorial District has praised the Federal Government for its intervention in the ongoing dispute between Cross River and Akwa Ibom states over the ownership of 76 oil wells.
The senator said the federal initiative reflects a commitment to due process and peaceful engagement, describing it as a credible step toward achieving a fair, transparent, and lasting resolution of the long standing boundary and resource dispute.
Williams spoke after taking part in a Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission led Federal Government Inter Agency Technical Committee programme focused on the plotting of disputed and newly drilled oil and gas wells.
According to him, the Cross River State delegation to the technical session demonstrated unity of purpose and a clear resolve to pursue the matter strictly through constitutional and legal channels rather than confrontation.
He noted that the state remains firmly committed to constructive dialogue and adherence to established legal frameworks in the pursuit of its legitimate interests, particularly with regard to natural resource delineation and revenue entitlements.
The lawmaker stressed that Cross River’s position is guided by principles of stability, fairness, and national cohesion, adding that peaceful engagement remains the most effective means of resolving disputes related to oil and gas assets.
Williams assured that the state would continue to work closely with relevant federal agencies and other stakeholders to ensure transparent and lawful outcomes that align with constitutional provisions and promote harmony among the affected states.
He added that Cross River’s participation in the inter agency technical programme underscores its determination to protect its interests while contributing meaningfully to sustainable national development.
