2027: I’ll Not Impose Candidates on Kebbi Communities, Gov. Idris Vows

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi has pledged not to impose candidates on any community in the 2027 general elections.

Mr Idris made the pledge while receiving the executive members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi.

The governor stated that communities had the right to choose their representatives.

“I will never impose any candidate on any community,” said Mr Idris. “You have the mandate to choose those who will represent you.”

He advised party members not to elect individuals who were not useful to the people.

“Before you elect anybody, you must find out what he or she has done for the people,” he said.

Mr Idris said his administration had fulfilled about 80 per cent of its campaign promises in less than three years.

“As a government, we are working to deliver all our campaign promises,” he assured.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to workers’ welfare, noting that the state was not owing pensions, gratuities, death benefits or salaries.

“In Kebbi, we do not owe anyone pension, gratuity, death benefit or salary,” he said.

He added that the government had also supported traditional rulers through palace renovations, vehicle replacement and routine medical check-ups.

Mr Idris promised to sustain the distribution of free fertilisers, agro-chemicals, power tillers and pumping machines to farmers across the state.

He urged party officials to mobilise members to obtain their e-registration cards, describing it as essential for electing credible candidates internally.

The governor expressed concern that Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area was lagging behind in the ongoing e-registration exercise.

Earlier, the chairman of APC in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, Sani Bello, commended the governor for prioritising public welfare.

Mr Bello said the administration had delivered on its promise of welfarism, particularly in supporting farmers and the general public with free inputs and food items.

He described the governor as responsive to the needs and concerns of the people.
