Party Impasse: Wike-backed PDP Promises to Hold ‘All-inclusive Convention’

The Peoples Democratic Party caretaker committee, backed by FCT minister Nyesom Wike, has pledged to deliver ”an all-inclusive convention that every member of the party will be happy with”.

Its national chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, disclosed this after the faction’s NCC meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said that the caretaker committee was working in accordance with the PDP constitution and electoral laws to organise an all-inclusive national convention.

Mr Mohammed said that, moving forward, the caretaker committee’s focus would remain on inclusiveness, transparency, and ensuring that every PDP member has a voice in shaping the party’s future. He said that there was no division in the PDP under his leadership, insisting that the PDP is united.

“We are working towards a peaceful and all-inclusive convention of our party. I am sure that members of the party are following developments and know that we are genuinely working to reposition this party.

“The party remains united, committed to bringing its members together, and focused on forging ahead in preparation for future elections,” Mr Mohammed said.

The Mohammed-led NCC had earlier fixed March 28 and March 29 for the party’s national convention in Abuja.

The caretaker committee’s spokesman, Jungudo Mohammed, reading the communiqué, said the party had shifted its proposed national convention to March 29 and 30.

”The adjustment was made after careful consideration of certain factors, after the earlier date announced at the National Executive Committee 105 meeting held on Monday.

“Coming out from this meeting, there are major decisions that were reached, far-reaching decisions indeed. Part of the decisions reached from this caretaker committee meeting is the adjustment made as regards the date earlier released for the national convention.

“Recall that yesterday, during the NEC meeting, a date was announced for the national convention of the party, which was billed to hold on March 28 and March 29. However, after careful consideration of certain factors, the date has been slightly adjusted for the convention to take place from March 29 to March 30.

Mr Mohammed disclosed that the working committee also dissolved the North-West, South-West, and Plateau zonal committees, stating that the zonal committees of the PDP will soon have caretaker committees appointed.
“Furthermore, the timetable approved for the congresses in the states, zonal, and ward congresses will take effect as approved by the NEC.

“The National Caretaker Working Committee will consult widely before the announcement of the national convention planning committee. These are the resolutions, or these are major decisions that have been reached after today’s national caretaker working committee meeting,” Mr Mohammed said.
