The police command in Kano State has arrested a syndicate of six suspected car thieves and recovered three stolen vehicles, marking a significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat vehicle theft in the state.
According to a statement by CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, police public relations officer, the command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) arrested one Aliyu Mamman, 35, at Hotoro Ring Road, Kano, in February 2026, following directives from Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Mr Mamman, a resident of Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara, confessed to stealing several vehicles in Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina States, implicating his syndicate members, including Abdulhamid Usman, Saliha Abdulhamid, Auwal Shuaibu, Sani Bala, and Ahmad Mannir, all of whom had been arrested.
The suspects confessed to the crime, leading to the recovery of a Golf Wagon, a Golf Opel, and a Hijet (Kurkura) motor vehicle.
The commissioner of police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the SIS for their dedication and professionalism.
