The Executive Chairman of Doma Local Government Council in Nasarawa State, Jonathan Okuba Addra, has debunked the allegation of blasphemy leveled against him by some associates of his predecessor as false and misleading.
Addra made this known in a statement issued after an emergency security meeting following the abduction of the councillor representing Doka ward.
The Council Chairman emphasized that Islam is a religion of peace, and his people-centred administration respects all religions.
He called on the members of the public to disregard the false accusation, describing it as cyberbullying and defamation of character intended to cause confusion and unrest.
“The issue being misrepresented relates to internal party matters and not religion. I, Hon. Jonathan Okuba Addra, JP (Mr. Unity), will never commit any act of blasphemy against any religion or its worshippers. I therefore urge the general public to disregard these baseless accusations,” he declared.
Meanwhile, the Muslim Youth Council of Nigeria has urged the Council Chairman to tender a public apology within 48 hours and publish it in five national dailies or face more serious consequences over the alleged blasphemy.
The group made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that it was to maintain peace and foster understanding among all religious communities.
