The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have strengthened their partnership to enhance national security and road safety through data integration. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to robust data harmonisation with NIMC, citing credible identity management as key to effective law enforcement and crash reduction strategies.
“Credible identity management remains central to effective law enforcement, crash reduction strategies, and national planning,” Mohammed said during a strategic meeting with NIMC Director General Engr. Adesoye Coker. He commended NIMC’s strides in deepening Nigeria’s identity database and strengthening the National Identification Number (NIN) ecosystem.
The FRSC plans to make NIN mandatory for vehicle registration and National Driver’s Licence acquisition, aiming to sanitise the motoring space and enhance traceability. Mohammed sought NIMC’s inclusion of FRSC in the Commission’s Annual Identity Forum, stressing the Corps’ pivotal role in driver licensing and vehicle registration.
Engr Coker pledged NIMC’s commitment to partner with FRSC on data integration initiatives supporting crash reduction and national security. “Strategic synergy between both institutions will deliver far-reaching benefits for the country,” she said.
The partnership marks a milestone in the Federal Government’s drive for a harmonised, tech-driven identity architecture strengthening governance, accountability, and road safety.
“Closer institutional collaboration will accelerate innovation, improve data accuracy, and enhance operational efficiency across agencies,” Mohammed added.
