Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has assured Kwara residents and Nigerians that security agencies will reclaim communities currently threatened by terrorists.
Mr Disu gave the assurance on Monday during an operational visit to the Nigeria Police Force command in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, where he met stakeholders to review strategies to address insecurity.
According to him, the visit aimed to engage critical stakeholders and assess security strategies to address emerging threats in the state.
He urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies, stressing that collective action remained vital to tackling insecurity nationwide.
“Criminals cannot drive us from our communities. We are determined to take back our communities from terrorists.
“I know Kwara and the efforts you have been making. We will continue working together to ensure these criminals are defeated,” he said.
The IGP assured that the welfare of police officers would remain a priority under his leadership.
He added that additional security operations would be launched to restore public confidence and sustain Kwara’s reputation as a peaceful state.
Mr Disu also cautioned against profiling cattle rearers, noting that not all Fulani herders should be regarded as criminals.
He urged residents to promptly report suspicious movements or credible intelligence to security agencies for swift action.
The Kwara commissioner of police, Adekimi Ojo, commended the IGP for choosing the state for his first operational visit after assuming office.
“We are grateful the IG chose Kwara for his first operational visit. We will continue to cooperate to achieve lasting peace in the state,” Mr Ojo said.
