By-Election: Gov. Yusuf Urges Lawmakers-elect to Prioritise Constituents’ Welfare

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has called on Nabil Sarki and Sa’ad Sa’ad, All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers-elect, to prioritise the needs of the people and work diligently to deliver democratic dividends to their constituencies.

Mr Yusuf stated this at the 38th Executive Council Meeting held in Kano on Thursday.

The two APC lawmakers emerged victorious in their by-election.

The governor also congratulated Umar Doguwa on his emergence as chairman of the APC in the state in the party’s recent congress.

Mr Doguwa expressed hope that the party leadership would contribute positively to the democratic process in the state.

He stated that his administration had continued to implement programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents across the state.

According to him, the initiatives include the distribution of motorcycles to social media influencers to support communication and engagement efforts, as well as the establishment of 150 Ramadan feeding centres to provide meals for vulnerable people during the Ramadan period.

He also confirmed the appointment of Bilkisu Shehu Maimota as the acting head of service following the removal of the former head of service.

Mr Yusuf urged her to strengthen discipline, unity, and professionalism within the state civil service to ensure improved service delivery.

In a related development, Mr Yusuf also warned members of the State Executive Council against disloyalty, internal rivalry, and leaking government information.

He urged them to remain committed to his administration’s principles, stressing the need for unity to promote development and improve residents’ welfare.

Mr Yusuf said that recent political and administrative developments informed the decision taken by him and other political stakeholders in the state to align with the APC, describing the move as being in the best interest of the state.

According to him, the decision followed consultations with members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers at both the state and national assemblies, as well as chairmen of the 44 local government areas.

Following the governor’s defection to the APC, five commissioners resigned from their positions.

Mr Yusuf thanked the federal government and Progressive Governors Forum for supporting Kano after the fire incident at the popular Singer Market in the state.
