The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, Olusola Odumosu, has frowned at the rate of cybercrimes and examination malpractices among students.
The commandant expressed displeasure when delegates of the National Association of Northern Nigerian Students (NANNS) paid him a courtesy visit on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to Mr Odumosu, the vices prevalent among Nigerian youths have posed as a critical challenge facing them in present-day Nigeria.
Mr Odumosu was honoured with a meritorious award of excellence as an icon of selfless distinction by NANNS.
Appreciating the association, he stated that the award was a motivation for more intensive efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property.
“This recognition is not mine alone; I dedicate it to my management team and personnel, whose relentless support is undeniable,” he said.
He commended NANNS for its proactive approach in nation-building, particularly its efforts in organising symposia and seminars aimed at sensitising students against social vices.
He also assured them of continuous synergy and support in ensuring that the negative activities carried out by youths, especially students, were completely eradicated or reduced to the barest minimum.
“This recognition further underscores the importance of synergy between security institutions and student bodies in addressing societal challenges in nurturing future leaders,” Mr Odumosu said.
Earlier in his remarks, NANNS leader Ibrahim Adamu said that the award was in recognition of the FCT commandant’s outstanding leadership, dedication to national service and unwavering commitment to youth development.
Mr Adamu stated, “Your practical efforts in strengthening security, promoting civic responsibility and supporting initiatives that positively engage Nigerian youths is commendable.”
