The Ogun State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the killing of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard.
Oyesiku, 67, and the guard were reportedly murdered by unidentified assailants in the early hours of Sunday at her residence in Agodo Community along the Abeokuta–Siun–Sagamu Expressway in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident was reported to the Owode-Egba Divisional Police Headquarters by a resident who noticed unusual activities around the deceased’s home and alerted authorities.
He explained that detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene, where preliminary findings revealed signs of forced entry and disruption within the compound.
During a search of the premises, officers discovered the body of the security guard inside the security post, while Oyesiku’s remains were later found in her apartment. Police also observed that her vehicle was missing from the residence.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, directed a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the killings and identify those responsible.
The command stated that investigators are pursuing several leads, while intelligence-driven and surveillance operations have been intensified across relevant locations to aid the manhunt for the perpetrators.
Police assured residents that every effort would be made to bring those behind the crime to justice and appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could assist the investigation.
The command also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the management and staff of OGTV, the media community, and others affected by the tragedy.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Ogun State Chapter, Mrs Oluwaseun Boye, expressed shock over the incident, describing the killing of the retired senior programme producer as brutal and deeply disturbing.
