Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has emerged unchallenged as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for the forthcoming election, positioning him for a second term in office.
The declaration was made on Saturday by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Mrs Oluchi Okpara, who served as returning officer during the primaries held at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia.
In other developments at the primaries, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South, clinched the party’s senatorial ticket as he prepares for a sixth term in the National Assembly.
Abaribe, who previously won the 2023 election under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), later joined the Labour Party after a brief stint with the African Democratic Party (ADP).
Also, Senator Darlington Nwokocha secured the Labour Party ticket for Abia Central, following his earlier political contest in which he was displaced at the Court of Appeal by Senator Austin Akobundu.
Similarly, Amobi Ogah, alongside other serving Labour Party members in the House of Representatives from Abia State, retained their tickets for re-election.
