Abuja Company Sues NSCDC For N5Bn Over Alleged Illegal Shutdown

An Abuja-based company, Stone Rockers Limited, has filed a N5 billion suit against the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over the alleged unlawful shutdown of its operations and seizure of equipment.

The suit, filed on the company’s behalf by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Olalekan Ojo, names the NSCDC, its Commandant General, and one Attah John Onoja as defendants.

The plaintiff contends that the defendants engaged in arbitrary abuse of statutory powers by sealing its quarry site without a court order. The site, located at Plot FL-109 Cadastral Zone, Gaube Farmland Layout, Barmishi Village, Kuje Area Council, is legally covered by Quarry Lease No. 37326.

The alleged unlawful shutdown occurred on July 24, 2025, following claims that the company had encroached on land belonging to another firm. Stone Rockers alleged that NSCDC operatives forcibly seized company property without court authorization.

In the suit, the company is seeking declarations from the court that: The shutdown of its operations was ultra vires, arbitrary, and an abuse of statutory powers; the August 16, 2025 confiscation of its properties was illegal, unlawful, and an arbitrary interference with its right to operate.

Stone Rockers is also requesting the court to order the defendants to: Pay N5 billion in damages for losses suffered; Restore all confiscated equipment; Refrain from further interference with its operations; Allow the company to resume legitimate operations without hindrance.

The case has been assigned to Justice Mohammed Garuba Umar and is scheduled for hearing on May 19, 2026.
