ADC Cautions Against Foreign Interference, Says Nigeria’s Democracy Must Be Protected

We Won’t Tolerate Indiscipline in Adamawa Chapter – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Tuesday, warned against any form of foreign interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs, describing such actions as threats to the nation’s democracy and sovereignty.

The ADC urged Nigerians to uphold democratic values and unity above partisan divisions, describing national stability as a collective responsibility.

The party’s National Leadership, in a statement by its Director of Media and Public Affairs, Dr. Christopher Okechukwu, expressed alarm over the reported designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The ADC described the development as “deeply troubling” and urged coalition partners and political stakeholders to prioritize Nigeria’s national interests over any foreign agenda.

Okechukwu said: “The leadership expressed deep concern over the potential implications of this designation on Nigeria’s sovereignty and international relations. The party emphasized that Nigerians will not take it kindly to any attempts by external forces to interfere in the country’s internal affairs.

“The ADC stressed that any efforts to compromise Nigeria’s democracy would be vehemently opposed, and we urged our coalition partners to prioritize national interests over any foreign agendas. By doing so, the ADC aims to protect the country’s democratic institutions and ensure that its sovereignty
remains intact.

“The party emphasizes that while we may have significant disagreements with the current administration on policies related to security, economy, and other critical issues, such differences do not warrant actions that would undermine the nation’s democracy.

“Our stance highlights the importance of maintaining national stability and adherence to democratic values over partisan or personal agendas, even in the face of political differences.

“Ultimately, the ADC’s warning should spark a national conversation about the role of foreign powers in Nigeria’s affairs. Nigerians must demand accountability from their leaders and ensure that the country’s democracy is not compromised
by external influences.”

Okechukwu called for a national conversation on the role of foreign powers in the country’s political landscape.

He added, “As we navigate into complex political terrain, our commitment to protecting Nigeria’s democracy and sovereignty will undoubtedly remain unwavering.

“The party’s stance serves as a testament to the power of principled leadership and the importance of prioritizing national interests. Nigerians can build a brighter future for themselves and future generations.”
