A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced businessman, Chris Uba, as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections following the conclusion of its internal selection process.
The development comes amid competing claims within the party, as another bloc of the ADC had earlier produced a different set of candidates through its own primary exercise conducted across the country.
At a ceremony held in Abuja on Sunday, the factional National Chairman, Bala Gombe, also unveiled governorship candidates across 29 states of the federation.
Gombe explained that the presidential ticket was zoned to the southern region in line with principles of fairness, equity, and federal character.
According to him, three aspirants initially obtained nomination forms to contest the presidential ticket, including Dr Bashir Sani, Prince Williams Charles, and Chris Uba.
He stated that the party adopted a consensus arrangement guided by provisions of the Electoral Act, allowing for internal agreement among aspirants.
Gombe added that two of the contenders eventually stepped down and endorsed Uba, making him the sole and consensus candidate for the presidency.
He further said the decision was taken to strengthen unity within the party and ensure smooth internal coordination ahead of the 2027 polls.
The faction also presented its governorship flagbearers, including candidates from states such as Adamawa, Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, Borno, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Benue, Nasarawa, and Delta, among others.
Gombe noted that the party had concluded its primaries for governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly positions nationwide, describing the process as peaceful and transparent.
He expressed confidence that the ADC would present credible candidates capable of competing effectively in the 2027 elections.
The unveiling highlights ongoing internal realignments within political parties as preparations intensify ahead of Nigeria’s next general election cycle.
