The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has presented its presidential flag to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, following the conclusion of its primary election.
Speaking at the event, the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, said the exercise went beyond selecting a candidate, describing it as a demonstration that democracy and internal party discipline are still possible in Nigeria.
He noted that the primary was meant to show that political competition does not have to degenerate into conflict, stressing that parties can be built on principles rather than personalities.
David Mark said the successful conduct of the exercise also reflected hope for the country, adding that despite widespread doubts and predictions of division, the ADC had emerged more united and stronger.
He commended members of the party’s screening and primary election committees for what he called their professionalism, fairness, and resilience under pressure.
Mark also praised the participation of key aspirants, including Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, saying their involvement demonstrated the party’s commitment to genuine democratic competition.
He added that by submitting themselves to the process, the aspirants strengthened democracy within the party, rather than weakening it.
According to him, the peaceful conduct of the primary had reinforced public confidence in the ADC’s internal structures and its commitment to credible political processes.
