Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has commissioned the first flyover in Ile-Ife as he appealed to residents, political parties and their supporters to maintain peace ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The flyover, situated at Lagere Junction, was inaugurated on Monday alongside the dualised Mayfair Roundabout and Palace Junction Road. The flyover project, which was launched in May 2024, was conceived to reduce traffic congestion and improve movement around the busy Lagere axis.
At the ceremony, Adeleke called on the people of Osun State to reject violence before, during and after the election. He urged political actors to prioritise peace, stressing that his administration had remained committed to peaceful coexistence and development despite what he described as provocations from political opponents.
The governor encouraged voters to exercise their civic rights without confrontation and allow their ballots to determine the outcome of the election.
He also urged residents to remain alert throughout the electoral process, particularly during the distribution of election materials and the movement of results from polling units to collation centres.
“Don’t fight them. Use your vote to speak. Be vigilant and monitor the electoral process. Our victory will be determined by the people and God,” Adeleke said.
Adeleke further expressed confidence in receiving the support of the electorate, promising that his administration would continue to execute projects aimed at improving infrastructure and living conditions across the state.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, also praised the governor for the projects, describing the flyover and the dualised road leading to the palace as significant developments in the ancient city.
The monarch said the projects were unlike anything previously seen in Ile-Ife and acknowledged Adeleke’s efforts towards the development of the town and Osun State.
Describing himself as a father to all political groups, Ogunwusi said leaders who deliver meaningful projects should be recognised and appreciated regardless of their political affiliations.
