The Osun State Government has reaffirmed that administration under Governor Ademola Adeleke will remain focused on governance and the delivery of development projects, despite growing political activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The assurance was given on Thursday in Osogbo by the Commissioner for Commerce, Bunmi Jenyo, during the return trip arrangement for beneficiaries of the state’s free Eid al-Kabir train service, which conveyed holidaymakers back to Lagos after the festive period.
Jenyo described the initiative as one of the most successful editions so far, noting that it recorded a large turnout of passengers during the festive season.
According to him, over 3,000 people travelled into Osun State from Lagos using the train service, while several others disembarked along routes in Ogun and Oyo states.
He explained that the scheme was not limited to indigenes of Osun, but also extended to other Nigerians who wished to travel for the Sallah celebration.
The commissioner also said the return journey to Lagos had been properly coordinated and expressed confidence that it would run smoothly.
Addressing concerns that the approaching governorship election might distract the administration, Jenyo insisted that governance would not suffer any setback.
He maintained that the Adeleke-led government remains committed to prioritising the welfare of residents, adding that all ongoing projects would continue without interruption despite financial constraints facing the state.
“Governor Adeleke will not abandon governance for politics. The interest of the people remains the top priority,” he said.
He further urged residents to continue supporting the administration, stressing that sustained backing would enable the government to roll out more development initiatives across the state.
The PUNCH Newspapers Punch Newspapers reports that the Eid free train service has been widely described as the most successful since its inception, with thousands of beneficiaries participating in the initiative.
Jenyo also commended Governor Adeleke for sustaining the programme despite economic challenges affecting government finances, noting that many passengers had expressed satisfaction with both the service and ongoing infrastructural developments in the state.
