Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has approved the indefinite suspension of three Special Advisers and two Supervisory Councillors serving in Auyo Local Government Area.
The decision, which takes immediate effect, follows a series of similar actions recently taken against political appointees across the state. The latest development comes amid heightened political activities and growing tensions after the All Progressives Congress (APC) concluded its primary elections.
Political observers note that the state’s political landscape has remained unsettled since the primaries, particularly after several serving lawmakers failed to secure party tickets for the 2027 general elections. Among those affected was the representative of Hadejia/Auyo/Kafin Hausa Federal Constituency, who lost his bid for re-election.
The suspension was announced in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Ibrahim Hannun-Giwa, and made available to journalists through the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Najib Umar.
According to the statement, the affected officials are Bala Energy and Abdullahi Usman, both Supervisory Councillors, alongside Afake Auyo, Ussaini Biyuta Kataudi, and Kande Auyo, who serve as Special Advisers to the Auyo Local Government Chairman.
The state government directed all five officials to immediately surrender government property and transfer their responsibilities to the Director of Administration and General Services of the council.
Authorities stressed that compliance with the directive must be immediate. However, no official explanation was provided for the suspensions, although the action has fuelled speculation that it may be linked to political developments following the APC primaries.
The affected officials will remain suspended until further notice as the government continues to monitor the political situation ahead of the 2027 elections.
