Senate President Godswill Akpabio has thrown his weight behind the long-standing agitation for the creation of Anioma State, assuring stakeholders of robust support from the National Assembly and the executive arm of government.
Akpabio made the declaration on Wednesday in Asaba, the Delta State capital, while addressing delegates and party faithful at the South-South Zonal Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He emphasized that the push for the new state aligns with the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
During his remarks, Akpabio provided insights into the administrative restructuring that would accompany the move. He clarified that the creation of Anioma State would necessitate a shift in the administrative structure of the existing Delta State, proposing Warri as the new capital for the reconfigured state.
His comments signal a significant political boost for proponents of Anioma State, who have long sought the creation of a distinct state from the Delta North senatorial district.
