The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all 18 chairmanship positions and the 192 councillorship seats contested in Saturday’s local government elections in Edo State.
‎
‎The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) announced the results on Sunday at its headquarters in Benin City, confirming that the ruling party recorded a clean sweep across the state’s 18 local government areas.
‎
‎EDSIEC Chairman, Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, said the election was conducted in line with the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law and other applicable electoral regulations.
‎
‎He stated that all stages of the exercise, including accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, collation and declaration of results, were successfully completed across the state.
‎
‎According to Aifuobhokhan, the commission was satisfied with the performance of its returning officers, describing them as professional and impartial throughout the electoral process. He explained that after collation at the ward and local government levels, the returning officers declared winners in their respective councils.
‎
‎He noted that while there were minor logistical challenges in some areas, they did not affect the overall conduct or outcome of the elections, which he described as largely peaceful.
‎
‎The EDSIEC chairman commended voters for participating in the polls and thanked Governor Monday Okpebholo for allowing the commission to carry out its duties without interference.
‎
‎He announced that certificates of return would be presented to all elected chairmen and councillors on Monday.
‎
‎Aifuobhokhan also advised aggrieved candidates and political parties to challenge the outcome through the appropriate legal channels, while reaffirming the commission’s commitment to improving future elections through continuous review and stakeholder engagement.
