The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has rejected claims made by the Labour Party senatorial candidate for Adamawa South, Peter Fwa, who accused the party of conducting irregular and unfair primaries before his exit.
Fwa, who emerged as the Labour Party candidate after leaving the APC, had alleged that he quit the ruling party over what he described as injustice, lack of internal democracy, and manipulation of its primary elections in the state.
Speaking on Monday in Yola, Fwa said he spent about 10 years in the APC before deciding to defect, insisting that the party had failed to uphold fairness and transparency in its internal processes.
He further alleged that the party’s primaries were marred by irregularities, claiming that aspirants were arbitrarily reassigned to different positions after purchasing nomination forms.
According to him, some individuals who purchased governorship forms were reportedly moved overnight to senatorial slots, while others were shifted to different offices despite their original ambitions.
“Do you call that democracy?” he asked, expressing confidence that he would win the 2027 senatorial election based on grassroots support.
Reacting to the allegations, APC spokesman in Adamawa State, Victor Dogo, dismissed Fwa’s claims as false and misleading, insisting that the party conducted transparent and open primaries.
Dogo maintained that the electoral process was properly monitored, including media coverage and participation of party members who voted openly for their preferred candidates.
“We conducted our primaries in the open. The media was there, and delegates voted publicly. Where is the injustice?” he said.
He also challenged opposition parties to provide evidence of irregularities in their own primaries, accusing Fwa of attempting to tarnish the image of the APC.
Meanwhile, Fwa is expected to contest the Adamawa South senatorial seat in 2027 against other major contenders, including serving Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, who has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Felix Tangwami of the APC.
Both Fwa and Tangwami originate from Demsa Local Government Area in southern Adamawa.
