APC Primaries: Group Commends Tinubu, Yilwatda for Insisting on Quality Candidates

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, have been commended for insisting that only credible and high quality candidates should be presented to Nigerians to elect in the 2027 general elections.

This was a fall out of the recently concluded governorship and National Assembly primaries of the party whose results are yet to be announced by the party’s secretariat.

The National Coordinator, Project774 Network for Asiwaju, Alh. Mohammed Ibrahim, said this Thursday in a chat with news men in Abuja.

The group stressed that the intervention of Mr. President and the national secretariat of the party became necessary because “the outcome of the primaries fell below the standard prescribed to the APC leaders who conducted the elections.”

Ibrahim said, “Mr. President is a man of vision and strategy. In his wisdom, he asked the state governors to go and ensure that they produce the best candidates acceptable to the people, but unfortunately, the outcome betrayed his expectations.”

He noted that, “You cannot put something on nothing and expect it to stand. Mr. President is looking at the future for Nigeria’s collective interest and betterment but the governors are looking at the mundane.

“Mr. President is looking at a better future for all Nigerians. He is trying to build an acceptable structure for every Nigerian; a narrative that will reflect the voice of every citizen and segment of the country.”

He highlighted that, “The President’s idea, which the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, is implementing, is that of the country’s leadership built on integrity, competence, credibility, and demonstrated loyalty to the government, the people and country.”

The CSO lamented that it was, however, unfortunate that some of the stakeholders in the party are not in the same spirit with this “great vision.”

The group however commended some of ministers, including Nyesom Wike (FCT), David Umahi (Works), Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (Interior), Mohammed Idris (Information), Christopher Musa (Defence), Shuaibu Abubakar Audu (Steel Development), etc, who are making the party and Nigerians happy with their performance.

The group therefore urged Nigerians not to be distracted by deliberate misinformation by the opposition but that they should remain focused in supporting the government’s policies and programmes.

The national coordinator urged party members to stay loyal and committed to the president and Yilwatda-led APC, but warned internal saboteurs in the party to desist as they were being watched and will soon be exposed.

The group equally commended the media, charging them not to “relent in their constitutional role as critical stakeholders in our democratic and national development through factual reportage.”
