The commander, 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Kasim Sidi, has assured Kogi State of sustained military commitment to peace and security.

Mr Sidi gave the assurance on Saturday at the Nigerian Army West African Social Activities (WASA) 2025 in Chari Maigumeri Barracks, Lokoja.

He urged citizens to support security agencies, saying cooperation remained vital to tackling insecurity effectively.

The commander described WASA as “a unifying platform” that brings officers, soldiers, families, and friends together to celebrate identity, culture, and shared achievements.

He said the event showcased the Nigerian Army’s diversity and unity across ethnic and religious lines.

Mr Sidi praised officers and soldiers for their dedication and professionalism, highlighting successful operations against bandits and kidnappers in Kogi during 2025.

He thanked Governor Ahmed Ododo and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for their leadership and support for army welfare.

Mr Ododo commended the army for sustaining the WASA tradition, describing it as “a vital platform for unity and camaraderie”.

Represented by state security adviser, Jerry Omodara, the governor reaffirmed support for the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.

Mr Ododo praised the 12 Brigade for maintaining peace in Kogi and urged personnel to remain focused and resilient in their constitutional duties.

He noted that the brigade recorded “significant success” through recent clearance operations across the state.

He assured that the Kogi government would continue supporting security agencies to ensure the safety of residents.

The event recognised outstanding personnel, including those deployed across various parts of Kogi State.

The governor also rewarded the wives of fallen heroes, donating N9 million to nine beneficiaries from the brigade.

WASA 2025 featured colourful cultural displays, entertainment and souvenir presentations to dignitaries.

Ethnic groups, including Hausa, Igbo, Igala, Ebira, Nupe, Fulani, Okun, Langtang and Zuru, participated in the celebrations.

Awards were presented to outstanding soldiers who distinguished themselves in various fields during 2025.

The event also featured a tug-of-war competition, with the barracks women emerging as the overall winners.
