Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on its 50th anniversary, describing the regional bloc as a beacon of hope for West Africa.
Speaking at the official launch of the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee celebrations in Accra, Ghana, he praised the organisation’s founding fathers for their vision of regional economic integration, cooperation, and shared prosperity. “With a profound sense of fraternity and solidarity, I stand before you today in the beautiful city of Accra to celebrate the official launch of ECOWAS’s Golden Jubilee,” President Tinubu said.
He commended the ECOWAS Commission staff for their tireless efforts and dedication, saying, “Their professionalism, commitment, and collaborative spirit have been instrumental in making this day a resounding success.” President Tinubu’s words stressed the crucial role the staff has played in advancing the ECOWAS agenda.
He also expressed his deepest appreciation to Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama for hosting the event and for his leadership in promoting regional integration and development. “Under your stewardship, Ghana remains a beacon of democratic governance, economic progress, and regional solidarity,” Tinubu said.
The Nigerian President reaffirmed ECOWAS’s commitment to a united, peaceful, purposeful, and prosperous West Africa, saying, “We shall not relent in our commitment to a united, peaceful, purposeful, and prosperous West Africa.”
