Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has opened up on the discussions he had with former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi during a recent visit to his Abuja residence.
According to Atiku, the meeting focused largely on Nigeria’s worsening economic situation, rising insecurity, and the need for patriotic leaders to work together in finding solutions to the country’s challenges.
The African Democratic Congress presidential candidate disclosed this in a statement shared on his X account on Thursday following the visit.Heqdlin
He explained that both men exchanged frank views on the current condition of the nation and the urgent need for committed Nigerians to help steer the country away from what he described as uncertainty and hardship.
Atiku noted that beyond the friendly atmosphere, their conversation centred on the nation’s economic struggles, insecurity, and efforts required to restore stability and progress.
The former vice president also used the opportunity to celebrate Amaechi’s birthday, joking about Arsenal’s recent success and describing the former minister as a passionate supporter of the club.
He further revealed that Amaechi promised to host him to a serving of Fisherman Soup during another visit, adding a light-hearted touch to their meeting.
The visit came barely a day after Atiku emerged as the presidential candidate of the ADC for the 2027 election following the party’s primary held in Abuja.
Official results released by the party showed that Atiku secured 1,846,370 votes to defeat Amaechi, who polled 504,117 votes, while Mohammed Hayatu-Deen received 177,120 votes.
After the announcement, former Senate President David Mark, who leads the party, presented the ADC flag to Atiku.
Atiku had also appealed to Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen to join hands with him ahead of the general election.
However, both contenders reportedly rejected the outcome of the primary, citing alleged irregularities in the electoral process, while Hayatu-Deen declined to attend the final declaration of results.
