Barr. Dalung Accuses Mutfwang of Trading Faith-Based Leadership for Political Survival

Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, has accused Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, of abandoning faith-based leadership in favour of political survival ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dalung made the allegation in a video posted on Sunday on the official YouTube channel of SYMFONI, where he spoke on the growing trend of governors defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, Governor Mutfwang’s recent political moves suggest a shift from the values and principles that defined his campaign, which he said were rooted in faith, grassroots connection, and public trust.

“Governor Caleb Mutfwang has abandoned the living God to seek power from the miracle in Lagos,” Dalung stated, using a metaphor to describe what he believes is the governor’s pursuit of political safety within the dominant national party.

The former minister argued that the move appears driven by self-preservation rather than the collective interest of Plateau State residents, noting that the governor previously benefited from strong local support built on shared beliefs and community engagement.

Dalung warned that such political realignments undermine the trust of the electorate, especially in Plateau State, where voters are traditionally conservative and loyal to established political values.

He further criticized the ripple effect of defections, saying appointed officials often follow their principals into new parties, leaving grassroots supporters disconnected from leadership decisions.

Dalung cautioned that prioritising survival over service could provoke voter anger and trigger a political backlash in the 2027 elections.

He also described the defections as part of a broader national trend where political convenience is placed above accountability and democratic principles.

Dalung urged leaders to remain faithful to their original mandates, stressing that leadership should be anchored on service, integrity, and responsibility to the people.

“Leadership is about service and accountability. Departing from these values for convenience is a betrayal of both God and the people,” he said.
