A technical staff member of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has sustained injuries after suffering an electric shock while working on an 11kV feeder in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

‎The company’s Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, Evelyn Gbiwen, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday in Benin City that the incident happened around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday at the Ado-Poly Satellite Campus area.

‎Gbiwen identified the injured staff member as Akinyemi Bamidele, a technical linesman with the company.
‎
‎She explained that Bamidele was carrying out an operational assignment on the 11kV Basiri Feeder after a scheduled maintenance exercise when he was affected by an electrical shock, resulting in burns on his arm and other parts of his body.
‎
‎Following the incident, the employee was quickly taken to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in Ado-Ekiti, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
‎
‎The BEDC spokesperson said Bamidele’s condition was stable and that he was responding positively to treatment.
‎
‎She added that the company remains committed to ensuring the safety of its workforce and is providing the necessary assistance to support the injured worker.
‎
‎Gbiwen further stated that BEDC had launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident and would implement any required measures based on the findings.
