Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, on Friday sought the support of the United Nations to transform the crisis situation in the state into prosperity.
Alia made the appeal when he received the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Dr Amina Mohammed, at the Government House in Makurdi.
The governor, who lamented the security challenges confronting the state, said Benue currently had over 500,000 internally displaced persons.
“As the food basket of our nation, our stability is directly linked to the stability of Nigeria’s food systems and, indeed, West Africa’s broader supply chains,” he said.
He appealed to the UN for collaboration to provide relief, lasting solutions, and transformation.
In her remarks, Mohammed said the UN was ready to support the state’s efforts in practical and coordinated ways aligned with its priorities.
