The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Benue State University (BSU) branch, has reaffirmed its decision to continue its indefinite, total and comprehensive industrial action over unresolved welfare concerns affecting its members.
‎
‎In a fresh notice addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, and signed by the branch chairperson, Comrade Ali Sule Ako, and secretary, Comrade Daniel N. Chile, the union said the decision followed a congress meeting held on June 1, 2026.
‎
‎According to the notice, the industrial action received the approval of the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) after members reviewed what they described as persistent and unresolved welfare issues despite repeated engagements with the university management and relevant authorities.
‎
‎ASUU said the continued neglect of the issues had negatively affected the welfare, morale and productivity of its members, making the strike unavoidable.
‎
‎The union directed all its members to withdraw their services with immediate effect, stressing that the action would remain in force until substantial progress is made in resolving the outstanding welfare concerns and other disputed matters.
‎
‎The latest notice reinforces the strike declared by the union in June over several unresolved demands, including the non-payment of promotion arrears, pension and gratuity benefits for retired staff, irregular pension remittances, outstanding 25 and 35 per cent wage award arrears, incomplete implementation of salary adjustments, taxation issues and the rejection of the Senate-nominated Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
‎
‎ASUU maintained that previous engagements with the university administration, Governing Council and the Benue State Government had failed to produce a binding agreement capable of addressing the concerns raised by its members.
