A Delta APC Chieftain, John Feh, has called for an urgent intervention of the Federal and State Government in the Bomadi/Patani federal constituency politics, warning of massive of defection of members to Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) if nothing is done.
Feh stated this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Abuja on Tuesday.
He said that Bomadi/Patani federal constituency was approaching a critical tipping point that demanded immediate and strategic intervention.
According to him, emerging political developments indicate a high likelihood of mass defections from the ruling political structure to the rival NDC, driven by growing dissatisfaction among key stakeholders and grassroots supporters.
”This is not a routine political shift. It is a systemic signal of discontent that can fundamentally alter the political balance of the constituency and beyond, if not urgently addressed.
”The situation calls for decisive, fair and forward-looking action by the Delta Government and all relevant stakeholders to preserve democratic stability and public confidence,’’ he said.
The APC chieftain said at the core of the looming mass defection was a deep and sustained dissatisfaction with the quality of legislative representation over nearly three decades.
”Nicholas Mutu, having occupied the office for approximately 28 years, is widely perceived to have delivered limited measurable impact: no clearly identifiable sponsored bills, motions or constituency-driven legislative interventions.
”Beyond this, concerns persist regarding the absence of a functional constituency office and limited engagement with the people.
”Representation, in its true sense, requires visibility, accessibility and tangible outcomes; where these are lacking over such an extended period, public frustration becomes inevitable,’’ he said.
Feh added that compounding the dissatisfaction was the growing perception that Mutu’s continued occupancy of the office had been sustained largely through political patronage rather than performance or competitive democratic processes.
He noted that indications that such patronage might still influence future candidacy decisions had further heightened tensions within the constituency.
”For many stakeholders, this reinforces the belief that the political space is not sufficiently open, thereby weakening confidence in internal democratic mechanisms and fuelling the current momentum toward collective political realignment.
”The implication is clear: what is unfolding is not an isolated protest or individual grievance but a coordinated shift of political allegiance, driven by a demand for fairness, inclusion and credible representation.
”A mass defection of this nature will significantly alter the political equation within the constituency, weaken existing party structures and create avoidable instability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
”More importantly, it signals a broader erosion of trust tha, if left unaddressed, may extend beyond Bomadi/Patani and impact the wider political environment in Delta.
”In light of these realities, urgent and strategic intervention is imperative.
”The Delta Government and relevant stakeholders must act swiftly to restore confidence by ensuring transparent, inclusive and credible political processes, particularly in candidate selection,’’Feh stated.
The APC chieftain further said that engagement with key actors, acknowledgment of legitimate grievances and a demonstrable commitment to fairness would be critical in reversing the current trajectory.
”The choice is stark: respond decisively to the voice of the people now or contend with the far-reaching consequences of mass political defection later,’’ he concluded.
