Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has officially severed ties with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), tendering his resignation and ending his membership with immediate effect. This move marks a significant shift in the political alignment of a sitting governor in Nigeria’s North Central region.
In his resignation letter, Mutfwang detailed the rationale behind his decision, placing particular emphasis on what he described as the necessity for clear direction and effective leadership. This explanation underscores the internal party dynamics and governance philosophy that ultimately led to his departure.
The resignation was communicated in a letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Mangu LGA.
In the letter, Mutfwang explained the reasons that led to his decision, emphasising the need for clear direction and effective leadership.
He stated: “Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform.”
He expressed gratitude to the PDP for the support and opportunities he received while in the party.
“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process,” he said.
“I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.”
Mutfwang concluded the letter by sending his regards to the party leadership, writing: “Please, accept the assurances of my highest regards.”
