Burkina Faso Eye Former France Youth International Alban Lafont
Burkina Faso is making a bold move to recruit former France youth international Alban Lafont for their national team.
The 25-year-old FC Nantes goalkeeper has yet to feature for the French senior team, despite being called up in September 2022.
“We believe Alban Lafont would be a great addition to our team,” said Aristide Bance, Burkina Faso’s head of recruitment. “We’re hopeful he’ll consider our offer. His experience and skills would greatly benefit our squad.”

Lafont, born in Ouagadougou, is eligible to represent Burkina Faso. However, he has prioritized representing France, playing 36 times across Les Bleus youth teams.
“It’s a difficult decision for me,” Lafont said. “I’ve always dreamed of playing for France, but I need to consider my international future. The competition for the goalkeeper spot is fierce, and I want to play regularly.”
Burkina Faso’s approach comes as Lafont’s prospects with France dwindle. Mike Maignan has established himself as France’s first-choice goalkeeper, alongside Brice Samba and Alphonse Areola.
“I understand Lafont’s situation,” said France manager Didier Deschamps. “He’s a talented goalkeeper, but we have a strong squad. We’ll see what the future holds.”
