CAF Raises Champions League Prize Money to $6 Million

The Confederation of African Football has increased the Champions League prize money to $6 million. The winner of the second-tier Confederation Cup will receive $4 million in the 2025/26 season.

It is a 50 per cent increase from the $4 million paid to the Champions League winner during the 2024/25 season and a 100 per cent hike from the $2 million awarded to the winner of the Confederation Cup last season.

“CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has announced a $2 million increase in the Prize Money for the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and a further $2 million increase for the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup,” the governing body said.

Additionally, the confederation doubled the prize money for clubs eliminated in the preliminary stages of both tournaments, with each receiving $100,000, up from $50,000 last season.

The increment is the latest move by CAF to make its tournaments financially lucrative, following the increase in prize money for winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to $1 million last year, while that of AFCON was raised by 43 per cent to $10 million.

Under Mr Motsepe, the prize money for the Champions League winner has jumped from $2.5 million to $6 million in five years.

The payment for lifting the Confederation Cup has also surged from $1.2 million to $4 million within the same period.

“The latest increases take the overall prize money and solidarity payments to African Clubs to over $42 million per season, an increase of 123.4% since Dr Motsepe was elected CAF president,” the confederation stated.
