Young people across Canada will have access to 70,000 job opportunities this summer through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program.
The initiative, aimed at providing hands-on work experience, will help youth develop skills while earning money for education and living expenses.
Minister for Women, Gender Equality, and Youth, Marci Ien, confirmed the new job placements, which will be available to individuals aged 15 to 30. This year’s program follows last summer’s success, where 71,200 jobs were created—exceeding the initial goal of 70,000.
Starting April 21, 2025, job seekers can browse openings on the Job Bank website and mobile app. The positions span various industries, including hospitality, marketing, construction, recreation, tourism, and environmental protection. Many of these jobs align with labor shortages, providing an opportunity for young workers to fill critical gaps.
A core focus of the CSJ program is supporting those facing employment barriers. Indigenous youth, racialized youth, individuals with disabilities, and those in remote communities will have increased access to opportunities. The program aims to create a more inclusive workforce by ensuring equal job access for all young Canadians.
The CSJ initiative is part of the larger Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS), designed to help young people transition into long-term careers. A government audit found that CSJ participants typically earn higher wages in the long run compared to those who do not take part. A recent survey also showed that 92% of participants gained confidence in key job skills, while 85% felt optimistic about their future careers.
In Budget 2024, the Canadian government allocated $351.2 million for youth employment initiatives in 2025–26, including $200.5 million specifically for the CSJ program. A significant portion of this funding will go toward jobs in housing construction, an area facing a labor shortage.
Minister Ien emphasized the program’s impact, stating that a summer job is more than just a paycheck—it’s an opportunity for young people to develop skills, explore career paths, and contribute to their communities. With thousands of positions available, the program is set to help young Canadians build a strong foundation for their future.
