Professor Sha’At, a distinguished chemist with over three decades of experience in academia and industry, was elected by CSN members at the Society’s Annual General Meeting held in Awka in September 2023.
In his inaugural address, Professor Sha’At outlined his vision for the Society, which includes:
Mainstreaming CSN in national life to promote the understanding of the centrality of chemistry in socio-economic development
Re-invigorating the Society’s operating systems to improve performance and tackle emerging issues creatively
Enhancing the CSN annual conference through international partnerships
Engaging in capacity building of individual members in entrepreneurship
Enhancing the engagement of successor generations of chemists
Repositioning the financial management and funding base of the Society
Building on existing national and international partnerships and forging new ones
Professor Sha’At also expressed his commitment to working with CSN members to address gaps in the Society’s operations and to ensure that CSN plays a vital role in the implementation of the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy (NSTIP) 2022 and the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Roadmap (NSTIR) 2030.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering of government officials, industry leaders, and academics.
