Children’s Day: TWDO, Partners Organise Funfair for Children in Abuja Community ‎

Residents of Waru community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) witnessed a colourful Children’s Day celebration on Wednesday as Tomorrow’s Women Development Organization (TWDO), in collaboration with De-Prime Initiative for the Advancement of Civil Liberty and Civic Duty and Citizens of Heaven International Leadership Empowerment Welfare Trust, organised a funfair for children in the community.

The event, held as part of activities marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, focused on promoting inclusion, welfare and hope for children at the grassroots in line with this year’s theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child.”

Speaking during the programme, Founder of TWDO, Dr. Chinyere Ezenwokike, said the initiative was organised to prioritise children in underserved communities across the FCT and improve the welfare of children, women and youths.

According to her, the organisation remains committed to reaching vulnerable communities annually to impact the lives of children through humanitarian and empowerment initiatives.

“It is a yearly tradition in our organisation where we pick communities to touch the lives of as many children as possible. We were in Zyinda community last year and we have several others we hope to reach. We want to ensure children’s welfare is prioritised in society,” she said.

Ezenwokike stressed that children deserve opportunities to thrive irrespective of their social background, noting that inclusion and support at an early stage remain critical to national development.

Chief Executive Officer of De-Prime Initiative, Dr. Chinwe Ogbuka, said one of the organisation’s major objectives is the promotion of children’s rights and social inclusion.

She explained that the outreach would positively impact children in the community by giving them a sense of belonging and recognition.

“In our little way, we prepared gifts, writing materials, food and drinks to make the children feel celebrated and happy, recognising that the future is now and begins with them,” she stated.

On her part, the coordinator of Citizens of Heaven International Leadership Empowerment Welfare Trust,Mrs Scholar Neokedi emphasised the need for deliberate and actionable measures toward safeguarding the security, welfare and future of Nigerian children.

He noted that collaborative efforts among civil society organisations and development partners remain essential in ensuring that children feel loved, protected and hopeful despite prevailing socio-economic challenges.

The organisers distributed educational materials, gifts and refreshments to children during the event, while entertainment activities and games added excitement to the celebration.

The initiative aligns with growing national advocacy for child inclusion and welfare by the Federal Government.
