The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria took another giant step towards fostering cultural exchange and educational cooperation between Nigeria and China with the inauguration of the 13th Chinese Corner at Government Secondary School, Wuse Zone 3, FCT-Abuja.

The Chinese Corner, equipped with modern facilities including computers, Chinese literature, and films, serves as a vibrant space for students to explore Chinese culture. Ambassador Yu Duhai emphasised the importance of this initiative, stating, “We aim to establish more Chinese Corners and provide greater opportunities for Nigerian teachers and students to visit and train in China.”

Josephine Ugwu, Principal of Government Secondary School, Wuse Zone 3, pointed out the benefits of the Chinese Corner, saying, “Through various programmes, language classes, arts, and cultural activities hosted here, our students will have a unique opportunity to appreciate the rich traditions, philosophy, and innovations of Chinese civilization.” This initiative will broaden students’ global perspectives, enabling them to become global citizens.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Muhammed Sani Ladan, Director of the FCT Secondary Education Board (FCT-SEB), and Yang Jianxing, Director of the China Cultural Center in Nigeria. Ambassador Yu reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening educational partnerships with Nigeria, particularly following President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to China.

Muhammed Sani Ladan expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for its relentless efforts in promoting education and culture in Nigeria. He acknowledged the collaboration between the FCT-SEB and the embassy, which has provided Nigerian students with valuable educational support, including scholarships and capacity-building opportunities.

The event also featured the donation of educational materials by China Harbour Engineering Company and the presentation of prizes to winners of the “Nihao China” Painting Competition. Martin Chen, Chairman of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Nigeria Limited, was among the notable attendees.

The inauguration of the 13th Chinese Corner reinforces the growing cultural and educational ties between Nigeria and China, paving the way for increased cooperation and mutual understanding between the two nations.
