According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director-General of the Protocol Department Hong Lei “accepted respectively the copies of credentials presented by newly-appointed Ambassador of Nigeria to China Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau.”

The MFA stated that Ambassador Dambazau “arrived in China on May 23” ahead of the credentials ceremony. The presentation of credentials to the Protocol Department is the standard diplomatic step that allows a newly posted envoy to begin official duties before formally presenting letters of credence to the Chinese head of state.

The event took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, People’s Republic of China, located at 2 Chaoyangmen Nandajie, Chaoyang District, Beijing, 100701. The Ministry, accessible via Tel: 86 – 10 – 65961114 and online at http://www.fmprc.gov.cn, manages China’s diplomatic protocol and foreign relations.

The MFA news update, published under “Home > News > MFA News” and updated May 29, 2026 at 21:59, was released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, People’s Republic of China. The statement appeared on the Ministry’s website alongside links to other government bodies including State Council, Ministry of Commerce, National Development and Reform Commission, and National Immigration Administration. With the copies of credentials now accepted, Ambassador Dambazau is expected to proceed with presenting his letters of credence to President Xi Jinping in a formal ceremony in the coming weeks, after which he will fully assume his diplomatic functions in Beijing.
