The Episcopal Choir President of the United Methodist Church UMC, Hon. Harry Kanawa, has urged choir members to be dedicated and committed to singing to God.
Speaking at the 45th Anniversary in Ministry of Sabon Gari Choir, Kanawa emphasized that “Choir is a gift…even if you force yourself to be a Choir member, if you are not gifted, you will just punish yourself at the end.”
He praised the Sabon Gari Choir for their wonderful performance, noting that they have grown to compete with any standard Choir in Nigeria and the world. However, he highlighted challenges faced by Choristers, including economic hardship and transportation difficulties.Kanawa encouraged Choristers to invest and keep away pride, stating, “Choir is filled with the spirit of pride…that spirit will kill us and lead us to nowhere but destruction.”
The Pastor in charge of UMC Sabon Gari, Rev. David Kuturu, celebrated the choir’s massive growth and global standard of singing, while the Choir Director, Gambo Senge, appreciated God and members for their dedication and commitment.
Senge highlighted challenges, including financial support and nonchalant attitude to rehearsals, and urged Choristers to sanctify themselves and know whom they are singing to.
The anniversary celebration showcased the choir’s achievements, including acquiring Choir robes and improved sound equipment, with over 100 Choristers participating.
