Communal Clash: Senator Eteng Provides Relief to Victims

Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, has extended support to communities affected by recent communal clashes by facilitating the distribution of relief materials to residents of Ochon Ward in Obubra and Ofutop II Ward in Ikom Local Government Areas.

The humanitarian intervention was organized in partnership with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) through its zonal office.

Speaking at the event, Senator Eteng,represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Barr. Emmanuel Elemi, said the gesture which demonstrate the humane posture of Senator Eteng was meant to provide succor to those affected by the recent communal clashes led the delegation to deliver much-needed assistance to the affected communities.

Communities that benefited from the initiative include Isabang, Ochon, Onyen Okpon, and Odionget in Ochon Ward, as well as Ekukunela, Okosora, and Abaragha in Ofutop II Ward.

The event drew a wide array of stakeholders, including Royal Fathers, community leaders, women groups, youth organisations, and party loyalists, all of whom praised Senator Williams for his people-focused leadership and continued engagement with the grassroots.

Dignitaries present at the distribution included the Councillor of Ofutop II Ward, Hon. Osim MacPeace; the Councillor of Ochon Ward, Hon. Richard Iyamba; and the Liaison Officers of Ikom and Obubra Local Government Areas, Hon. Theophilus Abri and Hon. Nton Joseph.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Barr. Elemi reaffirmed Senator Williams’ commitment to supporting vulnerable households and strengthening resilience within communities across the district.

Residents expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, describing the Senator’s gesture as thoughtful and impactful.

Relief items distributed included thousands of bags of rice and garri, pieces of wax wrappers, bags of iodized salt, cartons of vegetable oil, cartons of tomato paste, cartons of seasoning, one hundred pieces of Guinea brocade, and other essential household supplies.
