The Cross River State Police Command has arrested the prime suspect in connection with the gruesome killing of a 45 year old man in Igbo Imabana Village, Abi Local Government Area of the state.
The victim, identified as Egbegi Elegbo Enya, was reportedly attacked and killed with a machete late on the night of April 10, 2026. The incident was reported to the police the following morning by his elder brother, prompting swift action by security operatives.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Cross River State Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, revealed that preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, Emereze Gabriel Okoro, allegedly carried out the attack with the support of accomplices who are currently at large. Police detectives who visited the scene evacuated the victim’s remains and deposited them at the General Hospital mortuary in Itigidi for preservation and autopsy.
In what authorities described as a major breakthrough, the suspect, who fled after the incident, has been tracked and apprehended. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
The Police Command has launched a manhunt for other individuals believed to have been involved in the killing, assuring that all those connected to the crime will be brought to justice.
Authorities also reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order across the state and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
