The Cross River State Government has cautioned members of the public over emerging fraudulent schemes linked to the ongoing recruitment process under the Local Government Service Commission.
According to the government, some individuals are allegedly taking advantage of the exercise by demanding money from unsuspecting job seekers with assurances of securing employment after the conclusion of the ongoing review.
In a clarification issued by the committee overseeing the exercise, it was stressed that no individual, group, or agent has been given permission to collect money in exchange for job placements.
The Panel Secretary, Dr. Ntunkae Mary-Theresa Ikwen, advised anyone who may have fallen victim to such scams to promptly report through the official channels for investigation and possible recovery of funds.
The panel reiterated that:
> “No person or group is authorised to collect money for job placement. Victims of such fraud should report immediately for appropriate action and possible restitution.”
It further assured applicants who were unable to attend earlier screenings that they would still have an opportunity through a mop-up exercise.
The final deadline for the screening has been scheduled for Friday, May 29, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, the mop-up screening continues daily at the Conference Room of the Office of the Head of Service, within the New Secretariat Complex in Calabar, operating between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Applicants have been urged to comply strictly with official instructions and avoid engaging with unauthorized persons posing as recruitment agents.
