The Chairman of the People Democratic Party PDP in Cross Rivers state, Barr.Vena Ikem says the party under his watch is disposed to robust interaction with critical stakeholders with a view of repositioning the party in the wake of the 2023 general election fallout in the state.
Vena, who stated this in a statement issued in Calabar stressed that such “interaction is needed to rejig the party to reflect its new status as the major opposition party in Cross River state”
He described the meeting of the PDP elders held yesterday in Calabar as an initiative of the Caterpillar Movement support group attributing the absence of key party officials to lack of due consultation with the PDP hierarchy in the state by the group.
According to him”Appropriately, I think it was a meeting of the Caterpillar Movement convened by our governorship candidate in the last general election, Prof. Sandy Onor, at least to brief some members of the party and get feedback
“Perhaps, that explains why many critical stakeholders were visibly absent from the meeting. I even understand that the invitations were extended mostly to members within Calabar because obviously notice was short. So, members from across the state couldn’t attend”
He disclosed that the party was fine-tuning arrangements for critical stakeholders meetings for a comprehensive post mortem of the 2023 elections with a view of evolving a strategic agenda to reflect current reality.
“All we need in this nick of time is perseverance, commitment, patience, and accepting the truth that we are now in full opposition and deal with it by being resolute in repositioning the party ahead of local government and subsequent elections”
The PDP boss assured members that the party will bounce back in due time urging members to remain focus and dedicated to the ideals of the PDP.
