In a daring display of bravery, Nigerian Army Captain J.O. Abalaka successfully disarmed kidnappers and rescued hostages in Kogi State.
The incident occurred along the Ekpoma/Okene/Lokoja Road, where Captain Abalaka was ambushed and abducted by armed gunmen while traveling to his new assignment.
“I was determined to protect myself and the other hostages, no matter the odds,” Captain Abalaka said in a statement. “My military training kicked in, and I knew I had to act fast to disarm the kidnappers and gain control of the situation.”
According to a military signal, Captain Abalaka managed to disarm one of the kidnappers and engage the remaining gang members in a fierce confrontation, leading to the liberation of all the captives, including himself and his dog.
“The swift and decisive actions of Captain Abalaka are a testament to his exceptional military skill and presence of mind under extreme pressure,” said a military spokesperson. “His bravery has saved lives and demonstrated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting citizens from harm.”
The successful escape also resulted in the recovery of several weapons from the kidnappers, including a locally fabricated Beretta pistol, one magazine, and five 9mm rounds of ammunition.
Captain Abalaka’s heroic actions have been praised by the military and civilians alike, with many hailing him as a hero.
