Davido Denies ‘City Boys’ Claim, Speaks on Seyi Tinubu Friendship Amid Backlash

Afrobeats star, Davido, has dismissed claims linking him to a political clique known as the “City Boys” group and clarified that his friendship with Seyi Tinubu does not stop him from speaking out on national issues.

The singer made the clarification after facing backlash over his recent comments on insecurity and injustice in Nigeria, where he had urged entertainers, including himself, to be more vocal about the country’s challenges.

In a post on X on Saturday, Davido admitted that entertainers had not done enough in addressing societal problems, stressing the need for more public advocacy.

However, his remarks triggered mixed reactions online, with some users accusing him of being insincere due to his perceived closeness to the President’s family.

One X user alleged that he belonged to a “City Boys” group chat and was too close to Seyi Tinubu to genuinely criticise the government, sparking heated exchanges on social media.

Responding to the criticism, Davido denied any affiliation with such a group, insisting that his relationship with Seyi Tinubu is purely personal and does not influence his opinions on governance or national affairs.

He further recalled that he had previously faced backlash for speaking against Nigeria’s situation in international interviews, noting that his stance on national issues has remained consistent over time.

The singer added that while he has been friends with Seyi Tinubu for years, he often expresses his concerns directly to him, maintaining that friendship does not equal silence on public matters.
