Nigerian music star Oladapo Oyebanjo, widely known as D’banj, has achieved a new milestone by becoming the first Nigerian artist to ring the closing bell at the London Stock Exchange.
The award-winning singer announced the feat in a post shared on his verified X account on Friday.
D’banj explained that he was invited to take part in the ceremony as part of events commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Royal African Society in London.
Describing the experience as a landmark achievement, the singer also posted photos from the event.
In his message, he wrote: “On Wednesday, 22nd of July, history was made. I was invited to the London Stock Exchange to ring the closing bell as we celebrated 125 years of the Royal African Society.
“I am honoured to have shared the stage with the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Michael Drew, and the former President of Afreximbank and Second Patron of the Royal African Society, Prof. Benedict Oramah.
“I must greet you all specially and powerfully.”
The London Stock Exchange holds its opening and closing bell ceremonies to celebrate major milestones, anniversaries, listings and other notable achievements involving organisations, institutions and businesses.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Royal African Society is among the UK’s oldest organisations devoted to promoting greater understanding of Africa through cultural exchange, education, business and public policy engagement.
