Delta Student Leaders Call For Ribadu’s Resignation Over Rising Insecurity

The Delta Past Student Leaders Community (DPSLC), also known as the Comrade Community, has demanded the immediate resignation of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, accusing him of failing to effectively coordinate Nigeria’s security operations amid escalating violence across the country.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its President, Comrade Akpotoboro Oghenemaro, and Public Relations Officer, Comrade Peter Yisah, the group said the worsening wave of kidnappings, school attacks, killings and community displacements reflects a deep failure in the nation’s security management.

It argued that insecurity has continued to erode public confidence, noting that ransom kidnappings have become increasingly frequent and now threaten both interstate travel and residential communities.

The group also referenced reported abductions in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, 2026, where pupils and teachers were allegedly kidnapped, describing the incident as evidence of growing threats to educational institutions.

According to the statement, many rural communities have been destabilised, with farmers abandoning farmlands due to fear of attacks, while local economies continue to suffer disruptions.

DPSLC said it had lost confidence in Ribadu’s capacity to effectively coordinate security agencies, insisting that his resignation would allow for what it described as more competent and result-oriented leadership.

The group also urged President Bola Tinubu to appoint a replacement, warning that the security situation could have wider political consequences ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It further alleged concerns over perceived ethnic bias in the handling of security operations in some parts of the country and questioned the effectiveness of intelligence gathering, particularly in cases where criminal groups allegedly maintain visible online activity despite ongoing operations.

The organisation stressed that national security must be guided strictly by the interest of citizens, calling for stronger accountability in security management.

“This demand is not personal. It is a demand for accountability. National security is too important to be sacrificed on the altar of loyalty,” the statement read.

It added that Nigerians expect a government that decisively confronts armed groups rather than tolerating them, insisting that leadership changes were necessary to restore public trust and protect lives and property.
